On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, a police officer was killed as he headed to work. A head-on collision that claimed the life of a regional police officer aged 38 years was so fatal, he died. After hearing this week’s second death, the local police community was devastated.
Two vehicles collided in front of each other on Wednesday morning at Major Mackenzie’s Avenue.
Initial attempts by police to conceal the identity of the victim in the accident led to them trying to cover it up. Later, we discovered that Constable Travis Gillespie was the victim of the collision. He was a 38-year-old York Regional Police Officer.
To what extent is the investigation completed?
Travis Gillespie was riding in a white Honda, while another driver was driving a Porsche Cayenne. Constable Maniva Armstrong identified the Porsche Cayenne driver as a 23-year-old man with minor injuries.
In the meantime, there’s an update on Major Mackenzie Road Closuretoday. The YRP tweeted that commuters can now use the road. Although the cause of the accident has not been determined, investigators have asked witnesses to provide information so they can speed up the investigation. It is also not known what charges would be brought against the survivor.
Who was Travis Gillespie,
Gillespie was the constable of Metrolinx/GO Transit. He was sworn into office as the constable of York Regional Police on April 29, 2020. Gillespie left behind his family, friends and co-workers.
It was the second death in the area of Walmart Major Mackenzie, and Bayview that occurred the same week. Andrew Hong, a Toronto police officer, was also shot to death on Monday. This is the second consecutive loss for the police department of the region.
Gillespie was hardworking and loved by his coworkers. Gillespie was just thirty-eight years old and could make many improvements to help and protect the community.

Jim MacSween (the regional Police Chief) said that the accident was devastating for our organization, and offered his condolences. York Regional Police Association will be supporting the family.
Metrolinx’s retired Chief Special Constable Bill Grodzinski said that it was a devastating loss for the whole community. Maniva stated that it is a reminder of the fact that accidents can occur at any time regardless of whether you’re wearing uniforms.
