Background of Election
The Conservative Party for 2022 Leadership Elections was an election to elect the Conservative Party’s leader. The Election was also intended to elect the next Canadian Prime Minister following Erin O’Toole, who was the former Prime Minister and leader of that party.
On February 2, 2022, Erin O’Toole was fired from her post. The new guidelines and rules were also in effect for the entire Election. The nominations for Conservative Party Leadership Election lasted until April. To choose its next leader, the party is opting to use a ranked ballot process.
Each candidate in the party was required to pay a $50,000 deposition fee. Each candidate must provide a deposition fee of $50,000 and the $150,000 remaining as security deposit by April 29th. For the endorsement process, 500 signatures were required from party members. The new rules state that anyone receiving less than 50% of the vote will be removed from the ballot.

The voting ended on Tuesday. All five consecutive ballots were counted until the six final contestants were chosen. Pierre Poilievre and Leslyn Lewis, Scott Aitchison and Patrick Brown were the last endorsed contestants who are eligible to fight for the Canadian Prime Minister title. The schedule for next year’s election of the prime minister was established after the resignation of Pierre Poilievre.
